Is Getting Away with Your Mate Worth the Work it Takes to Leave?
My husband and I are about to take a 9-day vacation. It’s the night before we leave and we are stressed to the max. How did we do this when we had kids at home? Now we only have a dog and it feels overwhelming! Every time we get ready to leave on a trip, we look at each other and question whether all the work it takes to get away is worth it.
We each have our own businesses, so we have to tie up loose ends with that. There’s cancelling the newspaper, writing instructions for the dog sitter, paying the bills, straightening the house, alerting the neighbors, etc. Wouldn’t it just be easier to stay home?
I won’t kid you. I’ve come close to answering ”Yes” to that question. But then I think about how glorious it feels to be hundreds of miles away from household and work distractions. I bask in the knowledge that my husband and I have an abundance of time to just hang together, without any obligations. Ahhhh, our relationship is ripe for this getaway, so we’ll enjoy every moment of it. Yes, in the midst of last minute preparation chaos, I can say with assuredness, the getaway is worth the work it takes to leave!
